Amy Stursberg and Chris Schroeder join Morehead-Cain Foundation Board of Trustees

Amy Stursberg of New York, New York, and Chris Schroeder of Washington, D.C., have joined the Morehead-Cain Foundation Board of Trustees, effective July 1.

Stursberg is CEO of the Stephen A. Schwarzman Foundation and the Stephen A. Schwarzman Education Foundation. As CEO, she nurtured the Schwarzman Scholars program from an idea into one of the most prestigious postgraduate fellowships in the world, including raising more than $550 million in pledges to endow it in perpetuity.  

As executive director of the Blackstone Charitable Foundation, she directed more than $110 million in grants, including $50 million to expand access to entrepreneurship through Blackstone LaunchPad, the foundation’s collegiate program, and a grant to build entrepreneurial capabilities in Research Triangle Park in Durham County, North Carolina.

Earlier in her career, Stursberg served as the director of the September 11th Fund, managing a $500 million fund supporting communities, individuals, and organizations affected by the 9/11 attacks, and led a $90 million cultural and community grants program for the Lower Manhattan Development Corporation. She also served on the transition team for a former governor of New York and held positions at the Office of Management and Budget, the Office of the Mayor of the City of New York, and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.

Stursberg earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Michigan and a master’s degree in public policy from Harvard University’s Kennedy School of Government. She serves on the Partnership for New York’s Innovation Council and on the board of directors of Tectonic Theater Company, and she previously served on the National Advisory Council on Innovation and Entrepreneurship. Stursberg is a former member of the Morehead-Cain Central Selection Committee.

Christopher Schroeder is an entrepreneur and global venture investor who has spent more than a decade building and backing companies in rising markets. Since 2014, he has served as senior advisor and a founding member of the investment committee at STV, the largest venture capital fund in Saudi Arabia and the broader MENA region, and he holds parallel advisory and investment-committee roles at Next Billion Capital Partners and Village Global. He co-founded HealthCentral.com in 2005, growing the health platform to more than 15 million monthly users before its sale to Remedy Health Media, and earlier served as CEO of Washingtonpost.com and Newsweek Interactive, the online subsidiary of the Washington Post Company, from 2000 to 2004.

Schroeder is chair of the board of trustees of the German Marshall Fund, a transatlantic policy think tank that has hosted Morehead-Cain Scholars as part of the Summer Enrichment Program. He is the author of the bestseller Startup Rising: The Entrepreneurial Revolution Remaking the Middle East and has been named one of LinkedIn’s first fifty Top Voices for his writing on technology, business, and global affairs. He is a regular guest on CNN and CNBC and is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations and a senior advisor to Endeavor, the global entrepreneurship network.  Schroeder earned a bachelor’s degree from Harvard University and an MBA from Harvard Business School.

Stursberg and Schroeder’s experience building enduring institutions and navigating global and technological change will strengthen Morehead-Cain’s work to identify and develop purpose-driven leaders, said Tim Sullivan ’85, chair of the Morehead-Cain Board of Trustees.
